Arkhip Ivanovich Kuindzhi is a unique landscape painter of the second half of the 19th – early 20th centuries. He was attracted by exceptional and wonderful situations in the life of nature associated with unusual moonlight or sunlight. A serious passion for astronomy, the physics of color and light will be reflected in the artist’s painting.
Painting “Rainbow” captures one of the amazing natural conditions described in the Bible. In the sky, still saturated with moisture from the past rain, right on the cloud, colored stripes of the rainbow are displayed. The theme of eternal and beautiful light, the incomprehensibility of the Universe, the mystery of the universe and everything on earth was the main direction of Kuindzhi’s creative search. The master did not hide the almost mathematical accuracy of his landscape compositions, he was not confused by the bright color and light contrasts that enhance the effect of the paintings. Kuindzhi, without detracting from the natural beauty of nature, emphasizes the richness of the colors of lush greenery, the bright, almost grotesque blue of the sky, thereby introducing a decorative element into his painting and giving the landscape a “picture” look."
