In the art of the famous Dutch painter Rembrandt (1606-1669) in the 1650s the central place was occupied by a new, previously unknown type of portrait-biography in European painting. Models of the artist were often elderly people who embodied the wisdom of life, on whose share woeful trials fell. This decade has become the pinnacle of Rembrandt’s skill as a portrait painter. Through the majestic calm, the artist conveys the psychological state of an elderly person, his experiences and meditations. A special picturesque Rembrandt light and soft twilight allow you to feel it developing in a temporary stream that connects the past, present and future. The face and hands of the old man, the form of which the artist gave not only a brush, but also with his fingers, seem to be illuminated by a kind of spiritual inner light. The image created by the master became the personification of steadfastness and acceptance of his fate."
